Northeastern offices, jobsites close amid Hurricane Sandy

Most Skanska offices throughout New York, New Jersey, New England and the mid-Atlantic region are closed today to help ensure the safety of our employees during Hurricane Sandy. Many projects in those areas are also closed. Specific offices closed Monday are Empire State Building, Parsippany, Bulova (including Underpinning), New Haven, Boston, Blue Bell, Rockville and Alexandria (Infrastructure Development). Offices expected to remain open – for those employees able to safely make it to work – are Carteret (Koch) and Virginia Beach.

Frank Forcino joins USA Building as Metro New York account manager of interiors

Frank Forcino has joined USA Building as vice president and account manager of interiors for its Metro New York office. Forcino brings more than 40 years of construction experience to Skanska, during which he focused primarily on the tenant improvement market, completing interior work and fit-outs to improve space for influential companies within New York and New Jersey. Prior to joining Skanska, Forcino most recently served as a project executive for Turner Construction.

Texas teams raise more than $50,000 to fight breast cancer

In support of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Skanska hosted two fundraising golf tournaments in Houston and San Antonio on Oct. 12. Combined, the two offices raised more than $50,000 to support two organizations: the Rose in Houston and WINGS (Women Involved in Nurturing, Giving and Sharing) in San Antonio. Great job!

The Skanska/MAPP joint venture team on the University Medical Center project in New Orleans participated in the 16th Annual Komen New Orleans Race for the Cure on October 20. USA Building has hired Ray Hubbard as an account manager for its office in Rockville, Md., part of the Washington, D.C., metro area. Most recently with Clark Construction, Ray brings more than 34 years of experience to Skanska.

Real men (and women) do wear pink

In support of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, more than 300 USA Building employees and subcontractors – along with associates of St. Francis Hospital in Columbus, Ga. – donned pink shirts on Wednesday. The Skanska team members – part of the $116 million St. Francis Hospital Multi-Purpose Tower and Medical Office Building project – wore pink to remind the women in their lives of the importance of maintaining breast health, such as through yearly mammograms. Groundbreaking for $17 million Georgia Military College Health and Wellness Center

Construction Management Building Blocks program launching in Grand Rapids, Mich.

Skanska’s Construction Management Building Blocks program – which provides small, minority- and women-owned businesses with construction management training – is being launched in Grand Rapids, Mich. Nineteen businesses have been selected to participate in this program that will run through April 2013. Skanska offers this program in markets nationwide as part of our efforts to work with a diverse array of companies, and over the last five years more than 250 companies have graduated.
