Skanska donates 50 hard hats to students

Skanska in New York City recently donated 50 hard hats to students taking part in the Construction Industry Advancement Program (CIAP), a program designed for students who would like to pursue a career in civil engineering. Hundreds of middle school and college students participated in this year’s program, learning about highway construction first hand from Skanska’s civil engineering professionals.

Skanska team shortlisted for $1.4 billion+ Dulles Metrorail Phase 2 project

Skanska team shortlisted for $1.4 billion+ Dulles Metrorail Phase 2 project

A design-build team led by Skanska USA Civil Southeast has been shortlisted for the second phase of the Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project in northern Virginia. This 11.6-mile project – estimated to cost between $1.4-$1.6 billion – will complete the construction of the new Silver Line transit connection to Washington Dulles International Airport, which serves the Washington, D.C. area. In this pursuit, Skanska is joint ventured with four other construction firms: Granite Construction Company, G.A. & F.C. Wagman, Trumbull Corporation and Facchina Construction Company. Our team’s designers are Gannett Fleming and Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson. The contract is expected to be awarded in May 2013.

$117 million higher education building renovation and expansion contract award

USA Building has signed a contract to renovate and expand a higher education building for a confidential client in the Northeastern U.S. The contract value is $117 million, and on-site work begins in December.

$56 million Stamford Hospital Infrastructure upgrade contract award

USA Building has signed a $56 million contract to upgrade infrastructure at the Stamford Hospital Campus in Connecticut. The project began in summer 2012 and is expected to be fully completed in August 2016.

$98 million Boston Fore River Bridge contract award

$98 million Boston Fore River Bridge contract award

In a joint venture with J.F. White Contracting Company, USA Civil will build the Fore River Bridge replacement in Boston, Mass., for the Massachusetts Department of Transportation. Work began in September 2012 and is expected to be complete by February 2017. Skanska’s share of the $245 million project is $98 million.
