In New York City, our team erecting the World Trade Center Transportation Hub’s Oculus entrance hall placed the final wing-like rafter on November 25. “We’re breathing a little easier now,” said Superintendent Paul Orso.

Following the November 13th tragic bridge collapse in North Carolina, our Carolinas/Virginia office is collecting voluntary donations to help with expenses for the family of Jose Luis Rosales-Nava, the deceased worker who leaves behind a wife and three children, and the four injured workers. Our Carolinas/Virginia team requests that all donations be in Durham, N.C., by this Friday, December 5. These donations will supplement the corporate support that Skanska is providing.

But Europe and Canada have been using P3s to advance public building projects, and we’re starting to see that broader use of P3s in the U.S. too, such as with our pursuit of the LaGuardia Airport Central Terminal Building Replacement P3 in New York City.

Our joint venture is well underway with its work to raise by 40 percent the height of the Bayonne Bridge’s road deck to enable taller cargo container ships to pass below to reach the Port of New York and New Jersey. In this complex operation, the old roadway on this 83-year-old steel arch bridge is being removed as the new roadway is being assembled – all while traffic is being maintained. London’s M25 is one of Europe’s busiest motorways, and a Skanska joint venture just delivered a $2 billion upgrade of it 36 weeks ahead of schedule. On this public-private partnership project, a key factor leading to this achievement was the extensive use of BIM to enable early detection of design issues. Our team also achieved ambitious sustainability targets.
