Our Genentech team wins client diversity award

Members of the Skanska and the Genentech/Roche teams celebrate this accomplishment

Diversity is important to Skanska, but more than just a nice thing to do, having a diverse and inclusive workforce and using trade contractors that reflect this approach is what we need to do to meet client goals. Recently, our team working on the Genentech campus in South San Francisco won the Outstanding Facilities Supplier of the Year for Diversity Award from the global procurement department of pharmaceutical maker Roche, Genentech’s parent company.

“Diversity is important to Genentech,” said Ben Finney, Skanska project executive.  “’They have their own requirements to report on diversity and their efforts to improve on that, so we’re proud that we’re able to help them meet their goals.”

In awarding us this honor, Roche noted our team’s ongoing supplier outreach events; that we have a supplier diversity manager dedicated to this project; and that we contracted with small and diverse suppliers for $10 million in services – just in 2013. Skanska’s national Diversity and Inclusion Week was also noted.

“Everyone on our team appreciates this kind of recognition from Genentech,” Finney said. “It’s confirmation that they see we’re doing a good job, and they’re happy to have us out there.”

Skanska has about 70 team members assigned to Genentech, for which we have a master contract to do projects under $10 million. Our Genentech team handles about 150 projects per year.
