Working together, Skanska groups expand access to project software

Two major Autodesk software products – BIM 360 Field and BIM 360 Glue – are now available to all Skanska USA projects, thanks to an agreement made possible by a collaboration between USA Building’s Virtual Design and Construction and Project Controls groups. BIM 360 Field –formerly Vela Systems – is used for such field management tasks as punchlist, inspections and commissioning, while BIM 360 Glue is a new product that provides web-based access to BIM model data and other project information.

Regional implementation managers have been trained on using these products, enabling more project teams to start using them.

“This is part of the evolution of getting information to the work force,” said Jim Becker, corporate senior vice president.

This agreement brings a national approach to these Autodesk products, as previously several offices had separate agreements for using BIM 360 Field. Along with USA Building, USA Civil is covered under this agreement as well.

Collaboration between USA Building’s VDC and Project Controls groups resulted in this better, more comprehensive arrangement. As both groups manage data – VDC handling model data and Project Controls with cost and document data – such a confluence was a natural step forward, said Brian Tighe, national director of project controls.
