Advocates will help us be more diverse and inclusive

Introducing the new Skanska inclusion advocate role, presenting Skanska’s global diversity strategy and expanding the Skanska Women’s Network are some of the highlights from our National Diversity and Inclusion Council’s meeting last week in Nashville.

More details on what occurred:

• Inclusion advocates are responsible for helping their business unit take visible steps towards Skanska’s global diversity and inclusion vision. The advocates for U.S. are: Mats Johansson, USA Commercial Development president; Mike Aparicio, USA Civil executive vice president; and Ivette Vanas, USA Building senior vice president.

“Being asked to represent Building as an inclusion advocate means a lot to me personally because of the many changes I have seen in our industry in regards to inclusion and the benefits it has provided me as a Hispanic female in a historically male-dominated industry,” Vanas said. “I look forward to working with my colleagues on the strategies that will prove the power of diversity in today’s marketplace and give Skanska a competitive advantage.”

• Skanska AB’s Diversity Manager Pia Höök and Marketing Director Malin Dalén presented our global D&I strategy, which includes four focus areas: attract and recruit from a large and diverse pool of talent; secure an inclusive workplace culture; develop a diverse pool of talent; and use diversity and inclusion as a competitive advantage in the marketplace. • The Skanska Women’s Network is expanding! New chapter kickoffs are planned this summer and fall for California, the Midwest and Northwest.

Skanska USA’s National Diversity and Inclusion Council is made up of Skanska leaders from across all four business units. The NDIC’s role is to promote and sustain diversity and the mindset of inclusion and cooperation throughout our organization, supporting the ongoing efforts being led by local diversity and inclusion committees.
