Two key operations promotions

In New York, USA Building promoted Sean Szatkowski to senior vice president of operations. In California, USA Civil promoted Mike Smithson to vice president of operations.

In his new role, Szatkowski will continue ensuring that Building’s Metro New York projects have the necessary resources to ensure proper execution that leads to their ultimate success. He oversees that region’s daily operations, and in doing so regularly interfaces with our safety, project controls and human resources teams.

“Sean joined the company in 1994 as an assistant project engineer and steadily rose within the ranks due to his outstanding teamwork and dedication on our projects,” Executive Vice President Tom Webb said in announcing Szatkowski’s promotion. “He has held every title from superintendent to project director, a testament to both his passion to learn more about our business and his ability to grasp and apply new skills quickly. In most recent years, he has proven to be an integral part of some of Skanska’s most significant projects, including MetLife Stadium, for which he oversaw all field operations.”

With Smithson, since joining Skanska two years ago he has played a key role in expanding Skanska’s underground work in the West, including the $918 million design-build Regional Connector transit project in Los Angeles that was recently awarded to a Skanska-led joint venture. A 20-year industry veteran, Smithson is one of the nation’s foremost experts in the underground market.

“Through his dedication, strong business sense and willingness to develop others, Mike has positioned us well to win more work and execute better than our competitors in this complex and growing sector,” said Mike Aparicio, USA Civil executive vice president.
