Let’s make this our most meaningful Safety Week yet

Welcome to our 11th annual Safety Week! The intent of this year’s “Plan for Today” theme is to reinforce Skanska’s Injury-Free Environment mindset through meaningful discussions with craft workers that aim to eliminate the complacency that too often leads to accidents. Each day this week, we’ll be sending you an email with a toolbox talk; guidance on the safest and most environmentally friendly ways to work, both at work and at home; and links to safety perspectives that we’re publicly sharing on our blog, Constructive Thinking.

Additionally, InjuryFreeEnvironment.com is our Safety Week hub. Here, you can upload photos of Safety Week activities from your office or project and see what other locations are doing; share your safety pledge; and access the Idea Book with examples of Safety Week activities.

“Safe performance isn’t just going to happen,” said Rich Cavallaro, Skanska USA CEO. “Each of us has to drive our IFE culture – from the office, to the trailer, to the work crew. How you participate in Safety Week can set the tone. Are you having real discussions on your job sites about planning for safe work? Are you learning how you can help support safe performance when you walk a job site? If not, you’re just a bystander. We all need to agree not to just stand by, hoping accidents won’t happen… hoping we’re ‘lucky.’”

Again this year, this is an Industry Safety Week, with more than 40 companies participating. Please look for ways to involve not just your site but others nearby as well, as our industry needs to work together to achieve zero accidents. The website SafetyWeek2015.com shares information about the industry effort.
