2014 North Carolina accident leads to fatality

Robin Colvin, a 45-year-old subcontract worker who was injured last December at our University of North Carolina at Greensboro student center project, died June 21 as a result of his injuries. He had been in a coma since the accident.

The accident occurred at about 5 p.m. on December 12, 2014, when Colvin arrived at the jobsite with his truck carrying steel framing members. While he was unstrapping the load from the trailer, some of those steel members shifted and struck Colvin in the head and chest, causing head trauma.

In the near future, we will be sharing a Flash Report about this accident, and participating in a Global Safety Stand Down.

“Our prayers go out to Robin and to his family and friends, and we extend them our deepest sympathy,” said Steve Stouthamer, USA Building EVP and Carolinas general manager. “Every day we strive to live up to the goal of keeping our co-workers and our subcontractors safe, and making sure they go home every day the way they arrived.”

Stouthamer added: “We are a family in this industry, and we must continue our efforts each day to take care of every single family member on our projects.”
