Skanska rises in global contractor rankings

In ENR’s annual Top 250 Global Contractors list, Skanska moved up one position to the 14th slot, based on the $17.7 billion of worldwide construction revenue we reported to the magazine.

The accompanying article states that “global contractors are doing well in the world market, but signs of concern about economic stability are beginning to accumulate.” For example, China recently devalued its currency and Russia announced a contraction in its gross domestic product. “For large international contractors, economic uncertainty does not bode well for the market,” the article said.

Johan Karlstrom, Skanska group CEO, is quoted several times in the story, including on the “strong pipeline” of work he sees in the U.S. building and civil sectors. The article notes our consortium’s success in being named preferred bidder for New York’s LaGuardia Airport Central Terminal Building project. But U.S. margins are being hurt in part by disputed cost overruns on some projects, Karlstrom said.

On the companion Top 250 International Contractors ranking based on firms’ contracting revenue outside of their home country, Skanska held our eighth-place position.
