New York City’s 7 Line Extension opens to the public

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio joined our team Sunday in opening the 1.5-mile 7 Line subway extension and new 34th Street-Hudson Yards station in Manhattan’s fast-growing far west side. Over this project’s nearly eight years of construction, Skanska-led joint ventures did both the tunneling and the systems and finishes work.

$137 million in New York City contracts

Skanska has signed an $80 million contract with New York’s Metropolitan Transportation Authority to renew three subway stations in Brooklyn. Also, we booked an additional order worth $57 million from the New York City Economic Development Corporation for our ongoing project that’s rebuilding the Rockaway Beach boardwalk in Queens.

In New York City, our team erecting the World Trade Center Transportation Hub’s Oculus entrance hall placed the final wing-like rafter on November 25. “We’re breathing a little easier now,” said Superintendent Paul Orso.

This month, these four major Skanska projects officially open to the public: Harvard Art Museums in Cambridge, Mass.; Fulton Street Transit Center in New York City; Nemours/A.I. duPont Hospital for Children in Wilmington, Del.; and the Palo Alto Medical Foundation’s San Carlos Center near San Francisco. Together representing extraordinary craftsmanship, advances in building processes and technology, mastering extremely tough site conditions, and our teams’ ingenuity and hard work, the projects represents Skanska at our best.

This November, like they’ve done before, Skanska men across the country grew moustaches to raise money for Movember, an initiative to generate awareness and dollars for men’s health issues (Mustache + November = “Movember”). Among our participating teams were those in Boston, New York, Portland and San Antonio.
