We need you – and our clients – to get involved with the online Safety Week discussions

It’s important that you participate in the Safety Week 2014 LinkedIn group to help convey to everyone in our industry why it’s essential that all construction projects be injury-free environments: please take a few minutes to join and to add a comment. As part of that, Mike McNally, Skanska USA president and CEO, requests that you contact your client counterpart today to ask that they share with the LinkedIn group how important safety is to them as an owner. Also, be sure to share with your network the resources found on the Safety Week 2014 website (www.safetyweek2014.com).

USA Civil Midwest recognized for safety excellence

For the third consecutive year, USA Civil Midwest has been recognized with a national Thomas J. Reynolds Award for construction safety and health from The Association of Union Constructors. This award is based in part on having a days away, restricted or transferred (DART) rate of below 1.5, which is 25 percent less than the national average. In 2013, Civil Midwest had a DART rate of 0.38, continuing a downward trend in injury severity. In 2009, for instance, the region had a DART rate of 1.75.

App streamlines safety inspections

Our California team has developed electronic reports using the iAuditor app that make safety inspections more efficient, and that make it easier to address any issues emerging from them. This virtual process makes it possible to eliminate the paper checklists and spreadsheets normally associated with this activity.
