The Skanska team rebuilding flood-ravaged State Highway 7 near Denver was faced with a strict December 1 deadline set by Colorado’s governor. Through hard efforts and long hours, they beat that deadline, and on Nov. 26 Governor John Hickenlooper came to the project for the ribbon cutting.

To help position Skanska to win more of the growing number of infrastructure design-build projects, Keith Sabol has been promoted to USA Civil’s national design-build director. Previously, Sabol had been design-build director for Civil’s Northeast region.

In Virginia, going from three months late to three months early – safely

If the Huguenot Bridge was located elsewhere, replacing it would be much more straightforward: a new 3,000-foot-long span with steel girders and a concrete deck. But in its present location west of downtown Richmond, Va., replacing the deteriorated, 64-year-old span with a wider structure meant the Skanska project team had to address no shortage of obstacles.

Virginia Supreme Court ruling is great news for Skanska

On October 31, Virginia’s Supreme Court overturned a circuit court decision, allowing tolling to commence February 1 on the Skanska team’s $2.1 billion Elizabeth River Tunnels project in southeastern Virginia. While construction continued uninterrupted despite this legal challenge, this decision protects the public-private partnership (PPP) project’s primary revenue stream.
