USA Building announces key promotions and hires in Texas and the Carolinas
In Texas, Dan Balow was promoted to vice president of operations and Cliff Haehl has joined us as vice president of business development, replacing Matt Frey who has transitioned to South Carolina to take on an account manager role. Furthermore, Joe Thompson has joined our Carolinas/Virginia office as vice president of operations.
$184 million of contract awards in New York, Pennsylvania and Texas
We secured a $70 million contract to restore New York City bridges damaged during Hurricane Sandy in 2012, a $49 million contract to renovate a Philadelphia residential tower, and a $65 million contract to expand a central Texas hospital.
$146 million in North Carolina and Texas contract awards
Skanska signed a $93 million contract to construct the Rex Heart and Vascular Hospital in Raleigh, N.C., and a $53 million contract to build a football stadium and athletic field house for Prairie View A&M University in Prairie View, Texas.

In Houston, we’re starting our fourth commercial development project
Skanska is beginning development of West Memorial Place II, a 381,000-square-foot, 14-story office building in the heart of Houston’s Energy Corridor. This LEED Platinum-targeted project – scheduled to complete at the end of 2015 – is Skanska’s second office building on this 12-acre site.
USA Building promotes Matt Frey and Ellen Mair
Houston’s Matt Frey has been promoted to vice president of business development for Texas. Also, Oakland’s Ellen Mair has been promoted to a new role of director of research and analysis, in which she will be responsible for supporting and advising USA Building leadership and business development teams with market and trend analysis, surveys and strategy development.
Winning our largest bid project ever in Texas
Skanska has secured a $93 million contract to construct Texas A&M University’s new Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences Education Complex, and to complete renovations and the expansion of the university’s existing Small Animal Hospital.
Texas’ Eric Bunner named a Top 40 Under 40
Out of 242 nominees for the Dallas Business Journal’s annual list of 40 Under 40 business professionals, Eric Bunner, the vice president in charge of our Dallas/Ft. Worth office, made the cut.
Skanska’s growth highlighted in major news article
Mike McNally, Skanska USA president and CEO, talked to Bloomberg news service about Skanska’s U.S. growth plans, including in California and Texas and with projects related to low-cost energy. (Note that although the article mentions a Skanska joint venture’s project to build Apple’s new headquarters, McNally did not discuss this with the reporter – we’re not allowed to mention this confidential project externally.)
USA Building promotes three in preconstruction
USA Building promoted Chris Hillyer, Adam Hicks and Raylena Browning to preconstruction executive directors. In this new role, Hillyer will oversee our preconstruction efforts in San Antonio, and Browning will be responsible for the same in Houston. They will share responsibility for all other Texas markets. Hicks will serve in the same role for Tennessee, Ohio and Michigan.
