George Washington University picks Skanska for high-profile development

Skanska has signed a ground lease with The George Washington University to develop a Washington, D.C., site five blocks from the White House into a high-end office building with ground-floor retail. A 250,000-square-foot Class A, LEED Gold office building is allowed on the site under the development agreement approved by D.C. government.

Skanska’s Commercial Development unit celebrated milestones in two cities last Thursday: In Boston, Mayor Tom Menino joined our team in breaking ground for our $126 million 101 Seaport (formerly Parcel L1) office tower, and in Arlington, Va., the entire Arlington County Board joined our 1776 Wilson Boulevard team in proclaiming that project as the first in the county to attain Platinum certification under version 3 of LEED’s Core and Shell rating system.

Skanska’s 733 10th Street project in Washington, D.C., won the Best Real Estate Deals of 2012 award last week in the Urban Office Sale category from the Washington Business Journal. Developed by USA Commercial Development and built by USA Building, Skanska sold this project last year for $140 million. 733 10th Street was USA Commercial Development’s first completed project.
